The valve covers are separate and can be removed without touching the timing cover. You can probably get the job done without pulling the engine, but it will be tight, I would recommend unbolting the lower engine mounts, and raising the engine. That way you can also push it from side to side to give yourself more room on the side you are working on. You do not have to drain the oil. Pulling the valve covers will give you access to the spark plug gaskets. The manual calls for a small amount of TB1217H sealant on the valve cover.
