I would like to see those odds quantified! I did some research on this when I bought my car before I started tracking it, thinking I'd end up getting one as that seemed to be the conventional wisdom, but IMO the "need" to run an oil cooler on these cars is way overstated. 270F to 275F isn't a problem for decent synthetic oil, and that's as hot as my engine oil ever gets at the track even with ambient temps above 90F Running at least 5w30 is a good idea at those temps though.

Others have done oil analysis pre- and post-track usage without an oil cooler hand haven't found degraded oil or elevated amounts of wear metals. i might start doing that...

I don't think an oil cooler is a requirement for a "casually" tracked FT86 (say, once in a while HPDE usage with 15-20 minute stints).
