I don't know either
245 width is within industry specs for installing on 17x8 wheels. And, I have been driving 245s since last three years on 17x8 wheels. Even Toyota service technicians said it is perfectly fine
Plus, 245/40-17 is the closest tire size to stock diameter of 215/45-17.
