kgresham I agree with those guys, something else has messed up those pieces real bad, and that something else is most likely messed up which might have messed something else also.
I suggest you get a new or rebuilt transmission.
(I have found out over my 70 years of wrenching, that there comes a time where you just should give up trying to fix something and toss it in the junk pile -
