in both cases (718 & GR86) the press release says next gen. its just not sports cars. most cars when switching to a new gen will retain anywhere from 30%-50% of their predecessor's components.

not even the best selling truck in America is not exempted from this. for example the 2021 14th gen F-150 remain's its predecessor frame and cab. hell, even Toyota did a similar move with the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacoma.

i read the same article about the Camaro being killed off. not just coupes, sedans are going the way of the wind as well.
