How is he saving on maintenance?

Either its built into the lease (so he's paying it) or he has a maintenance package (so he's paying it) or it's out of pocket.

The maintenance on a car is pretty constant regardless of it's age. My 2004 Suburban costs no more or less to maintain than it would have when it was new.

Unless you are including repairs as maintenance.
