I would not own two cars for myself right now if I had two car payments. That is a big expense and money could be used better. But if you buy a new car and keep your old car, it’s a different story.

For example, my best friend has been leasing cars because he hates any maintenance and he can afford it. He always makes fun about how many cars I have. But when we did the math he is spending way more money in the last 15 years on the cars he has gotten.

Higher insurance for newer cars, taxes and fees for each new purchase. He saves in maintenance but the high monthly payments put him over the top.

Think about it, even a 300 a month lease is 3600 a year. I can’t even tell you how many years it would take to spend 3600 on maintenance for 4 cars. Even with tires and multiple sets, it’s a number of years.

One advantage he has is that new car smell and feel, as well as tech, if that’s your thing.
