Of course, power isn’t everything, but a better power to weight ratio matters for performance. The Z is heavier for a reason. Bigger brakes, much wider tyres with lots more lateral grip. To make factory 370Z power safely at the same price, Toyota would almost certainly have to increase the 86s weight to similar levels.
People criticise the Z’s weight, yet the much newer and more expensive Supra weighs even more with ‘officially’ not that much extra power (it’s weigh underrated in typical BMW fashion though).
I think it is highly dependent on the individual. The lack of reach adjustment in the Z is the single biggest issue - leads to a very ‘Italian’ sports car style long armed driving position. But the Z’s ability to angle the front seat bolster to your liking is something I wish the 86 had.

Fair. It's not just the Z that's getting heavier. It's common with most models now. Lighter cars are more fun IMO. Power to weight on the 86 is easily modified. Of course, I'm going the long route lol
