Lots of small European hatchbacks are lighter in the latest generations:
Peugeot 207 at 2740 lbs / Peugeot 208 at 2150 lbs.
Opel Corsa E at 2469 lbs / Opel Corsa F at 2161 lbs.
Renault Clio III at 2535 lbs / Renault Clio IV at 2161 lbs.
Ford Fiesta 6th gen at 2540 lbs / Ford Fiesta 7th gen 2454 lbs (the one we don't get in the US).
Obviously all small cars to begin with (same size as the aforementioned Fiesta), and some were plain porky in the previous generations (the 207 especially). I guess the Golf sized hatchbacks would show the same story, but I'm too lazy to check...
