OK, you have a point, most of them have enough problems shifting using the clutch -
However, learning to shift up the gears, not using the clutch, is a good exercise to learn and get the feel of how a MT works.
Also, if your clutch goes out, you can usually make your way home (just don't stop). Also, unless you explode the clutch, then maybe not.
Hell, I shift up the gears without using the clutch many times.
