I personally have never ridden without a helmet, even if just moving a motorcycle around a parking lot, but there's a large contingent of riders that feel differently.
Same with seat belts. I've never not worn one, even before it was the law.
As the Bell helmet ads used to say "If you have a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet". I'll let you figure out what that says about someone that doesn't want to wear one.
Now that said, I'm a little conflicted on whether it should be mandated by law.

Big difference though, you aren't any more likely to kill someone else if you don't wear a helmet. Or a seatbelt for that matter.
