There's a lot of complaints about this exact issue. Try typing "BRZ Power Steering Failure" in a Google search.

There's a fuse you can replace, but I'd be curious what caused it to fail. Have you had your NEW battery tested? It may seem strange, but if that battery sat around for a long time, it could be functioning just as poorly as your other one.

I'd re-approach the dealership and bring up that this has been an uncommon, but documented issue with these cars and see what they say. Request to see if there is a TSB or recall notice that could cover your car. Ask to speak with a manager.

Do not just accept what they say, at least fight a little.
