They need to keep the car portion low so that they can continue to put large engines in their trucks. there's been tiny news-pieces about it in the past about how one of tesla's big incomes is selling their unused carbon credits to other companies.

but it never amounts to more than an article or two around the fiscal end-of-year reports. i assume largely because it's a behind the scenes things that most don't understand anyways.
