I wonder how much of that detail will carry over to the Corolla version? Or how much time and money will go into development and tuning the chassis. Will they just slap the parts on a Corolla and call it a day? It's a shame we couldnt get this very car, you can tell they were pretty serious about it.
I expect it's going to be slap the i3 into the 'rolla and go, hope you can hit a sweet spot between the Si and Veloster N in terms of price and performance. In which case it'll be a hard sell since the 10th gen Si is pretty good, slap a tune on it and it'll be mighty close to the Toyota i3 on performance in a lighter chassis and the Veloster N is already great bang/buck. And by the time the 'rolla gets here Hyundai could tweak the suspension and drivetrain on the N and make the 'rolla GR4 obsolete before it even arrives. Honda could crank the boost on the Si as well, or detune the type-R engine to also make the 'rolla a moot point.

Toyota knows they're too slow and cumbersome to capture magic in a bottle, they basically took an unoccupied market segment with the 86, that's not going to happen here with the 'rolla, I think this car is a nice gesture but will ultimately be unsuccessful. That being said I wouldn't gamble on which would sell better a Yaris or Rolla GR4, I can see a strong argument for a warmed up Corolla getting more non-enthusiast buyers than a hotted up Yaris and doing better for Toyota in the US.
