Funny nobody has mentioned lift backs yet. Once upon a time it was a more common designation than even hatch was. Especially with Toyota.

But a liftback is simply a type of 3 door/5 door hatchback. It's used to describe a hatch back that is more horizontal (Like many old Toyotas, or a Tesla Model S) vs the more standard hatchback like a GTI.
3 door/5 door is still the standard and has been. Just because Mfrs didn't want to confuse people with such terms doesn't mean they are new or anything.
