The GT3 of the RX-Vision was first shown in concept last November. The main issue with the concept is sadly how to incorporate the rotary. Mazda has tried to re-engineer the engine and even has received patents for them. The first concept was an inverted engine design with the exhaust coming out the top. The 2nd form was a hybrid design using the rotary mostly as a range extender, though in the RX-vision it could also be used for performance experience.

Keep in mind Mazda has not been doing well for a while now, even before Covid19.

The redesigned Mazda 3, while receiving a strong, positive reception has not sold well at all. Despite a slick redesign, premium interior and offering AWD punching well above it's class it has flopped. This might have caused Mazda to pull out on some of their development/risks, even before 2020 went to shit.

Mazda was starting to unmask the details on it's Skyactive-X, an inline 6 that was going to debut starting in the redesigned Mazda 6. Most feel this is big for the brand as the inline 4 na Skyactiv and turbo Skyactiv just isn't very appealing against the competition in today's market. Mazda was also said to be returning to offering more FR layout in more cars.

Mazda currently also doesn't have an electric or hybrid model to offer. The 2021 CX-5 is/was supposed to debut that as an option but, it has also went dark.

With most auto manufacturers cutting down on their small car lineup and doubling down on cross-overs, things aren't looking up for the Mazda 3/6 in general.

Personally, I'd jump at an AWD Mazda 3 hatchback for a daily if they gave it a stronger engine. Tack on a 6-speed, decent brakes and and the old MazdaSpeed branding and it might even grab some of the WRX crowd.
