Yea, I'm more about the story than the visuals. I still play 1920x1080 (and sometimes 1920x1080x3) because I don't really see any advantage to forcing the game higher than that. I think it does matter in VR, but not on traditional gaming.

Other than VR, the other exception may be flight sim, where the additional detail adds value.
The only game I play is Witcher 3. Recently, I bought a 43 inch 4K monitor and installed the HD Reworked texture pack. Game looks significantly better. I guess it depend on the game, not every game can look better with better than 1080P resolution. And I think a large monitor is necessary to see benefits of higher resolution than 1080P.
