I don't believe you have to return any received under valid circumstances but you would have to return those after a return to work order if you refuse to return to work but keep reporting that you have not been offered employment.

There is a possibility if you can prove you are still impacted (like helping treat a COVID patient) you could refuse and still continue to legally receive benefits, but that is going to be relatively rare.

Of course, COVID or no, some people are willing to play this game. Then there are people like my two adult sons I had to convince to file for the benefit. They both said they didn't need the money and didn't see any reason to take it. I was very proud of them but pointed out that they would need the money if this went on for an extended period and/or either of their parents lost their jobs.

Still makes me feel like I may have done something right after all.
