Being a flat engine, cylinder walls tend to gather more oil than an engine with vertical cylinders, that is why break-in is very important on a flat engine to avoid oil consumption later on in life, a well broken in engine will be fine and not burn oil, and not-well broken in engine will also be fine, but burn oil all of it's life.

But .5L over 3000km on a subaru is acceptable consumption.
