My dad is like that. He will buy cheap laminate flooring for our rentals even though it takes 3 times as long to install. Last time we worked on a rental he bought the cheapest drain kit he could find for this sink we replaced. Took him easily 3+ hours of messing with it to get it to stop leaking
I gave him shit for a while about how if he was paying himself 10/hr he could have bought the most expensive one and still had money left over for beer
