For COVID, about half of hospital admissions are for people younger than 50. That is not even close to the case for the flu. If the US gets to the infection rates in the next two weeks to a month that Italy saw then many young people who need hospitalization may not get it, and then we will see them decompensate and die or get admitted, but be critical. Serious question, are those younger people under 50 admitted to the hospital in actual need of critical care? Or just being admitted as a precautionary / risk of spread?

Here the many of those confirmed with Covid are being sent home to self-quarantine and recover at home, only those with other complications or older patients are being admitted to the hospital.
