I crashed my FRS at the track, bought a BRZ with a spun bearing. I swapped the motor and trans from my FRS to BRZ and had it running on a Monday evening after work.

I know you say that if the one could get the transmission it would make the swap easier. Other than separating the engine from the transmission, is there an issue, say with the computer having to be reprogrammed/flashed, etc.?
Reason I ask is that I am in the same boat that I have a spun bearing and need a replacement motor. I have a 2013 FRS and am able to locate a 2015 motor (not planning on getting the tranny). Just researching to ensure that
this is possible with no issues.
