I'm talking from experience my dude.

Stock fans are able to cool down an LS swapped 86 which generates more heat than stock turbo engine. While the super slim Spals that are included in all of the slim fan/shroud packages for this car cannot keep up.

I actually have a swapped 86 and have experience with it. With my setup stock fans did not fit and I needed to upgrade the shitty slim spal fans (the ones included with the Fullbown slim fan shroud kit which they claim it 1100+ cfm and I had found them to be 900 cfm) to 1328 cfm Spal fans. Still, stock fans were able to cool down the engine better than the 1300 spals, but they did an acceptable job.


I have a friend with a swapped 86 and stock fans who moved the radiator forward in order to fit the stock fans, and has never had any issues with cooling on his swap.

Granted, of course, no all Spals are made equal. There are larger/more CFM Spals that will be better than OEM. But given the envelope of the usual slim fans/shroud kit used for this cars, they are not better than OEM. In order to fit my 1328 CFM spals, I needed to increase the fuse from 25-30A, becuase they used a bit more current than 25A. Getting any bigger Spal that could "beat" the OEM fans, would require a larger relay kit/wiring.

The Verus kit huge improvement is because they use a super efficient radiator and like a previous poster said, racing is not the same as stop and go traffic in high heat. stop and go traffic basically the fans are by themselves to remove heat, unlike racing you have forced air coming in and cooling the radiator.
