Also, the Celica is the parent car of the Supra. They eventually became separate platforms, but not originally.
Check out the attached pdf for more history on the Celica...

I'm sorry, I did read all 4 pages of essay, but did I missed something? Yes, I know Supra was first called Celica XX or Celica Supra. I think, all the Supra fan knows that. I said 2kGT is "Father" of Supra, not giving birth mother (should I put

or

?). Supra had M (I6) series engine like 2kGT and they used it for 3 gen, while Celica used T & R (I4) series engine. To put totally different engine in same car was rare thing to be done in JDM company in that time of era (70's). IIRC Nissan 200sx had V6 in US (from mid 80's). Yeah, we see it in almost every car now days (Accord, Eclipse, & blah blah blah). I could go on and on, but this thread isn't about "If Supra is related to Celica". I guess these topic can stay @ Celica or Supra forum.
Anyways, back to the real topic. I don't see why not Toyota bring out new name, other than bring back old name (Supra, Celica, Corolla & etc). It'll be good new start for Toyota.
