I don't agree with 100% of what Dave says, but most of it is good common sense that won't leave you worse off than where you started, if you need a simple financial plan that doesn't require an accountant, and you are willing to follow it. I've basically followed his plan without knowing I was doing that for 40 years.

As far as the "screw up" he did file bankruptcy because he messed up and didn't have a choice. My understanding is that he did go back and pay all his back debts though, including those dismissed in the bankruptcy. It was not because he felt he had to, that debt was relieved by the laws of the land, but he felt he was called to do so by his Faith. Here it is in his words.
