Oh, I reckon he will be OK.

His situation brings to mind a back-in-the-day during HS, story. It takes place in small town Ohio at a place we called Hollon's garage. One of our group was the son of the owner. It was a large heated building with a hoist, a grease pit and lots of room. It is where they serviced their fleet of milk hauling trucks.

So, John, with his 1937 Chev sedan, Steve with his 1937 Chev coupe, Harry with his 1949 Ford, Bruce with his 1930 something Terraplane, Larry with his 1951 Chev (PG), myself with my 1948 Chev coupe and several others, met on weekends.

It was the place where we would do some serious modding of our cars (actually just keeping then running).

There was this kid named Ronnie that kept coming around, riding his Zundapp motorbike. We let him hang out because we thought he might learn something. But, he turned out to be a pain in the ass.

So, we would send him down to the local automotive store for the usual things like a left handed monkey wrench, blinker fluid and muffler bearing grease. After he finally caught on he became a smart ass and just kept criticizing our cars, which really pissed us off -

One late Saturday afternoon, Chad, the oldest son of the owner, pulled it with a tandem axle milk truck with a bad tire. Chad took the tire off, patched the tube and half assed remounted the tire on the 10 hole bud wheel (the kind with a snap ring).

Then, he called Ronnie over and ask him if he wanted to air it up, yep, put 75 psi of air in it. When Ronnie just started I was passing by and noticed the gang was all gathered at a distance watching Ronnie. Not knowing what the "joke" was, I flipped the tire over and told him NEVER to air up a truck tire with a the the snap with the ring UP!

Then, I got it - but I told the guys that if the snap ring gives, it will still scare the shit out of him -

Sure enough at about 60 psi, the snap ring gave way and blew the whole tire (and Ronnie) about three feet off the garage floor.

Ronnie wasn't hurt, too bad, we all got a good laugh …. and Ronnie never came back to Hollon's garage.

THE END
