Concerning the synchros no I would not do that, unless Toyota paid for it. [emoji28] I had (can’t remember the gear now) synchros replaced on my WRX under warranty. That 5 speed had a rep for being fragile, I always shifted more carefully because AWD. Idiots launching it from a stop would grenade the transmission, or adding a bunch of power would destroy it. I remember swapping it for the STi transmission was a popular option.
About a fluid change, welllllll, Toyobaru knows best for most things. Many “upgrades” for the twins aren’t always a true upgrade. But Toyobaru also has price points and service intervals to consider. So a company like Motul or Amsoil can make a product that can outperform OEM stuff. I’m not saying those are necessarily better, but I think it’s worth a try. The BITOG forum is a minefield of conflicting information and opinions. Anything to do with oil and transmission fluids involves voodoo and black magic. [emoji28]
