Couple of things.

First, you have to have it done at a Toyota dealer.

Second, in theory at least, Toyota has done the recall on more FA20s than Subaru has because Toyota sold more 86s than Subaru did BRZs. Subaru had more recalls in general but they were for different models with different engines.

Third, unless you live in CA you don't have to have it done. If the engine fails because of it, again in theory, Toyota would pay for the repair assuming it could be proven to be a faulty valve.

Fourth, there have been way more successful recalls done than have failed. You just don't hear about every time there is a successful one done.
