This may take a bit, but let me know if anything in the local address says 127.0.0.1. It does? good.
Now type ipconfig /all and hit enter
How many times does it say "Media disconnected?" 3? Cool. Oh 4 actually? That's okay, too.
This time type cd c:\ and hit enter again
Now type tree and hit enter
There's a lot of stuff there, but scroll up and let me know when you find anything that says x86. It does? Good.

Now choose start, shutdown, install updates and restart and that message about pending updates should go away.
