they only do it because those same laws make it profitable to sell fakes. patent laws only protect you from taking something patented and reproducting it, which isnt the case here and wouldnt stop someone from selling fake drugs that arent the drug or fake electronics that clearly arent real. goochi handbags and fake gillette razors are going to be covered by trademake violations which has nothing to do with the actual product or the consumer. These laws arent on the book to protect the consumer.
