How I cut my studs.
First, I threaded a nut on the stud. Then measured the length. Cut the stud. Then by un-threading the nut, it repairs the thread on the end of the stud. (as long as your cut is nice) Then carefully clean up the tip of the stud with a file.
All 10 I did came out perfect.
And, like Soundman said, they are inexpensive and easy to install if you need to replace one.
