I would forget "lower consumption". I think any fuel mileage benefit would be so small as to be unnoticeable. FWIW I'm getting the best mileage I've ever gotten at the moment and I'm on 245/40-17 Bridgestone RE71R tires. I've never found wide/grippy tires to hurt fuel economy by any detectable amount, while monitoring consumption at every fill-up.
Goodyear "efficientgrip" is a very low performance tire. If you want good wet grip, and won't run in cold/snow/ice, stick with max performance or ultra high performance summer tires. Extreme Performance if track or autoX are in the cards. Or if you will run in cold/snow/ice, either Ultra high performance all-seasons or winter tires.
Tirerack.com has a ton of tire reviews and test data, pick your tire category and check out info there on what tires may be best for you, then maybe run it by the forum again before buying
