My old Triumph would pop off like gunfire when unspent fuel hit the header. That wasn't the result of a tune. That was a function of twin carbs, a very aggressive camshaft and timing advance.

We didn't build it to do that. We built it for performance, and the sound was a side effect. I usually just drove it easy in residential areas to keep the volume down.

My exhaust was legal. I'm not sure how you outlaw pops that are a function of the engine in older carburetor hot rods with no computers. You'd basically just be outlawing hot rods altogether.
