honestly, that's an all-or-nothing thing, despite how i don't like it. computers are inherently better than us meatbags at repetitive tasks. despite the trolley problem, i believe that it is going to eventually happen.

and when it does, i see only 2 outcomes. either it will become completely illegal to drive ourselves, requiring a mass update to the entire transportation system over a short time span. or, and more likely, they will allow people to drive themselves for some time, but insurance rates will quickly creep up as 'meatbag hits autonomous car, again' gets repeatedly plastered across the front pages of newspapers, and the trolley problem falls to the back burner of concerns.
