I had a similar issue with the Blitz plate I'm using for an oil temp gauge.

I drilled out and tapped the 1/8 PT to 1/4 NPT. Inserted a 1/4 to 1/8 NPT reducer. I've had it this way since 2016, no leaks no problems.
