You are still over simplifying the crash test requirements. Sure there are "plenty" of cars but they are not the same design. Just because others can do it does not mean it can be applied across the board. Could be that removing a foot actually adds weight! They may have been able to reduce it and take a lower crash test rating but this may be as short as THIS car can get and maintain top ratings.
