Normally I'd agree with you, but not on this one. There are plenty of cars with length's that are shorter than the BRZ. Heck they could have even shrunk the sheetmetal just to be closer to the wheels and made it better instead of having those huge overhangs.
I don't want exotic materials or anything like that, because that will astronomically raise the price, and if I wanted that I'd go buy an Alfa 4c. My BRZ made my Yaris look like a clown car with how much larger the BRZ is.

You are still over simplifying the crash test requirements. Sure there are "plenty" of cars but they are not the same design. Just because others can do it does not mean it can be applied across the board. Could be that removing a foot actually adds weight! They may have been able to reduce it and take a lower crash test rating but this may be as short as THIS car can get and maintain top ratings.
