The word irony and ironic had been used in Turkish language as well. However it is being used very very badly. Some people use that word thinking it means sarcasm. Some people use it all the time, but they really have no idea what that word means. It's just so cool to use it. I don't recall that word being used by anybody here as it was told me in English classes. Alanis Morissette was very popular here; and I have feeling that she has a great impact on the weird evolution of the word "ironik" in Turkish.
