That's what I feared. I want this unit mostly because of its other specs, like 64 gb rom, Bluetooth 4.2, and that it's available on Amazon, so easy returns as opposed to shipping to China. The headunit is Joying not Eonon, as the latter have generally crappy specs.
For what it's worth, I found a bit more information. 1. A customer on Amazon managed to install the unit on his BRZ. 2. A joying rep told a customer that his BRZ would need a special adapter to connect the factory amp to the headunit dsp/spdif. 3. When I asked what this "special adapter" is, the rep answered:

Joying support: Hello friend, please connect your factory amplifier to the AMP-CONT wire of joying harness, and then go " setting-Device-Sound-AMP ON/OFF" to turn on AMP. If there will be a sound comes, you will not purchase the amplifier adapter, on the contrary, you will need to purchase the amplifier. Thank you

So unless someone can decode that enigma, I think I am done LOL. I'll just have to buy a regular DSP-less unit and call it a day.
