Custom tow hook hitch setup for bike rack / transport / carrier
I had the parts custom made and was hoping to use this with my old rack. My rack weighs 43 pounds and each bike is ~30 (I was hoping to carry 2 bikes).
Unfortunately, it appears to be way to much weight for this setup. It may hold up, but I am not comfortable with the amount of flex at the mounting points (not the hardware, but the car itself).
So.. if you have a light bike rack for class 1 hitch and want to carry 1 bike, this setup is really nice. No permanent hitch to install.
Bars are made out of 303 stainless steel. Hitch is class 1.
*** The hitch is offset about 1" to the right.. this aligned it better with my bikes on rack. If you want it to be perfectly centered, I would drill out the mounting holes on the hitch and make them into slots. This way you can center it or move it around, to account for bike alignment.
*** Automotive tolerances are somewhat loose. This fits perfectly onto my car, but you may find that the hitch will not simply slip onto the extended bars on yours. Use caution and wear gloves when installing the hitch onto the bars.
$199 for the whole setup + actual shipping cost.
