When I got to Germany there was other guy starting the same day. They said there were two jobs open and we had to figure out who got what. One was driving the base Chaplin around the other was fueling helicopters. The other guy figured the Chaplin job was cushy so pulled seniority to get it. That poor sonofabitch worked 18 hours a day 7 days a week for the next two years. Since Canada had no helicopters in Europe at that time I worked about 2 hours a day and never saw a weekend duty. I did eventually branch out into jet aircraft so ended up spending a whole 4 hours a day working though.
I did do 4 months driving staff car at CAF Headquarters in Ottawa. There is not a hope in hell I would ever have wanted to be an officer's driver on a prolonged basis. It sucks!
