Hell, in the end it does cost more, but, if you want to be competitive you would gladly pay the extra, I would.
As for being part way money wise to a turbo build, not really, plus it would change your class as well.

The main draw of the gruppe-s is the price. It's cheaper than the tomei by about a 1/3 here in Canada anyways. It can be had for $650+ tax.
The Ace, JDL 4-2-1 also include the overpipe as part of their design, which should be considered when adding up costs. Most OP end up costing few hundred bucks which would narrow the gap to anybody touching all parts of the exhaust.
