There are a lot of fast M/T guys out there, but most people only got the M/T because its the "Manly Thing" to do and chickens out on trackday events. The Automatic trans technology in our chassis is great! Same guy who designed the Lexus "F"(IS-F, GS-F, RC-F) trans. Only problem is the gear ratio is too long for stock power! So either slap in a 4.88 or 5.1 OR a stage 1 delicious Flex fuel. Then you start kicking butt!!!!
I used to off road rally, and did a lot of hard core 4 wheelin'. I always remembered the 2 girls killed going down the lions back in UTAH in an auto that wouldn't have happened in a manual. What I did back then would have been impossible with an auto.

As a slush box hater for over 50 years, my test drive with the Scion FRS paddle shifter impressed me enough to buy one. No regrets because -
The technology of paddles results in FASTER shifts on the track compared to stick even though its a slush box paddle.
A human is not as fast as a computer especially with the multiple angle body movements required.

And you're right on with 4.88 gears with an auto.
On of the fastest 86 lap times in our club is a standard, stock motor, with 5.37.
