That's a car that needs a manual.
It actually works really well together for two reasons. First the DSG keeps the turbo spooled between gears. Secondly the low end torque from the turbo (peak torque at 1700 rpm) minimizes the benefit off the line from a manual drop-clutch launch. If I remember correctly, the DSG cars are about 1/2 second quicker than manual.

One of the reasons I bought the GTI was because I needed a car the wife could drive, and the GTI and DSG paired so well together.

I'd argue NA torque-challenged cars like the Twins benefit from a manual a lot more (or S2000, Miata, etc.)
