I'd be super super SUPER surprised if any insurance claim ever got denied becuase someone turned of their DRLs. I know they are the law in Canada but not in the USA right?

Besides, I'd say nearly everyone got the quote from their insurance before buying the car, or more specifically they did or will do this change after having already secured their rate.
When I call around for insurance they ask based off a checklist what safety features the car has, not whether they are actually activated or not. Now when it comes time to renew and if they ask again...that's a different story. But that only happens when you change companies, so again, moot.

Principle. I can't speak for you, but I feel I am capable of making the decisions for my car, not the other way around. Forcing the compressor on when you use defrost is another pet peeve of mine, and always gets reprogrammed out of my A/C systems in my cars so I retain the option of using the compressor or not. Yes obviously the car defogs/defrosts faster with the comp on, but again it's the principle.
