And again $20 pads versus much more expensive parts to wear... for what just because you have a manual and you can? I'm not trying to use the clutch any more times than I need to even when I'm driving semi-hard. Unless you're 1in behind the guy in front of you with no idea when he might try to take off (on a track maybe) on you how do you not know what gear your going to need next? Or is this really saving you money burning through all these extra shifts just so as not to use the brakes for their intended purpose? Maybe it's a preference thing but it seems inefficient to me unless your in hot battle or not sure what gear you're going to need next. Probably costs more in gas alone than pads let alone maintenance, lol.

When you’re coming to a stop and the unexpected happens like a dump truck behind you that isn’t going to stop, if you are already in the correct gear you just plant your foot. You don’t want to be sitting in neutral with the engine at idle trying to figure out what gear is best in a panic. These are just manual driving 101 sort of things. You should never be in neutral or clutched in while moving.

If you rev match properly there is very little wear on the clutch as it’s all moving at the same speed when clamping. If you double clutch you can also eliminate the wear on the syncros. So the downshifts are essentially free. My car has 100k miles on the original, clutch master cylinder, clutch disk, pressure plate, flywheel, brake pads and rotors. In my 25 years of driving manuals I have never worn out a clutch. I have broken pressure plates from too many flat shifts and hard launch’s but never actually worn one out. I do typically rip through pads because I tropically run perf pads and despite what you think, I use the brakes, engine and gears all at the same time while stopping if needed.

Besides all that downshifting just adds to the fun regardless of whether it’s 100% necessary.

You seem like a good candidate for an auto.
