FYI, letting of the gas isn’t detrimental to the life of the engine. Clutching in everytime you let off the throttle is detrimental to the life of the clutch though. A proper rev matched downshift puts very little ware on the clutch. No one engine brakes to save brake pads though. Seams people think others engine brake to save the pads but that isn’t the case. There’s just no point in clutching and using the brakes if all you need to do is lift a little.
