If you have a manual brz/86 , and can shift fast in getting it into 3rd-4th-5th gear, it should get better mpg . Then they say autos now get better mpg then manuals ( I don't totally believe that, since a auto will weigh more to start with). If you know how to shift, and be in the right gear given your speed, a manual should be the better mpg car....

I'm sure its because this thing is cruising at 2000 rpm or less on the freeway when your BRZ is at 3500 RPM on the freeway. You're almost firing the cylinder twice to do the same thing. Plus these cars get terrible gas mileage for a 4 cylinder.
My Honda commute car barely gets better gas mileage than my Z06 did cruising. One does like 4000 RPM at 80 and the other is lumbering around at 1800rpm. Granted at full throttle the Vette gets like 5 mpg while the Honda still gets like 25!
