I figure your latch just needs some adjustment. It used to be a simple process, loosen a couple of bolts, wiggle the latch, retighten the bolts. However, today, it probable requires a computer, a shop manual, a special tool and a torque wrench calibrated down to .00001 inch pounds.

Bubba says just to take a small crowbar or a very large screwdriver, stick in in there and pry on that latching rod/bar till it moves up a tad -
