The normal mx5 club and RF are really the only other alternatives in that price bracket but the 86 is still notably cheaper.

MX5 RF is more expensive, starting above 34k. Where a new 86 is below 28k. Both are with zero options. Also hard not to mention on top of the additional money sacrifice to own a mx5 you get the luxury of having a car that has next to zero practicality for anything except transporting a driver 1 passenger and maybe 2 small backpacks if you really cram.

If you ever have put 4 full size wheels in the back of a twin you can totally appreciate the cargo space which is really good for a small cheap sports car.
