The picture of the pistons doesn't necessarily show what you think. Especially with fire going the wrong way back out the cylinder on every stroke.
You need a borescope with a 90* head to look at the valve in the cylinder. You'll be able to see the valve closed on one side and open toward the center.
We deal with recalls on salvage title cars from time to time. Never had a problem with it.
